Through vaccination, the immune system acquires sufficient defenses to stop an infectious disease as long as the scheme is fully and adequately complied with. Vaccines can prevent more than 2.5 million deaths worldwide, being the main health strategy to save lives. In America, it has managed to control and eradicate infectious diseases such as polio, smallpox and measles, which have evolved over the years according to the needs of the population. The vaccines against Covid 19, which are in charge of the first level of care, aim to cover with a higher percentage of coverage, reducing the spread of the virus, the symptoms from severe to mild, avoiding the saturation of the second and third level of health care, and also reducing mortality. As this is a review with a qualitative approach, articles and documents with great investigative value were analyzed, as shown by the WHO and the Ministry of Public Health of Ecuador.
