This study analyzed the perceptions of university students and professors regarding plagiarism, focusing on the Graphic Design program at ESPOCH. It explored awareness of plagiarism, common practices, motivating factors, its connection with technology, and strategies for prevention. The research adopted a mixed-methods approach through questionnaires with both open and closed questions, which were previously validated through a pilot test. Data analysis incorporated both quantitative and qualitative perspectives. Findings reveal that although there is widespread awareness of the seriousness of plagiarism, many students admit to having engaged in it, mainly due to academic pressure, insecurity, and easy access to digital information. The most common forms of plagiarism include modifying existing work and combining fragments from various sources without proper citation. As preventive measures, the study proposes strategies such as fostering creativity, teaching ethics and respect for authorship from early academic levels, and using technological tools for plagiarism detection and prevention. These actions can be adopted by other higher education institutions, promoting more responsible, ethical, and originality-oriented academic environments.
