Brief analysis of curricular relevance in Ecuadorian Higher Education

Abstract

Curricular relevance in higher education constitutes an essential factor when studying the curriculum and its application in the Ecuadorian reality, in this sense and noting the importance of analyzing curricular relevance in the Ecuadorian context at the National University of Chimborazo, which leads us to the research question: Do the studies of relevance to the curriculum design of higher education presented by UNACH meet the criteria requested in Ecuadorian legislation? To answer this question, a theoretical analysis related to the legislative part of relevance in the Ecuadorian context was used as a starting point, in order to establish the criteria of relevance that said studies must meet. As well as a non-exhaustive documentary investigation of scientific articles related to studies of relevance, designs and curricular redesigns of higher education careers presented by UNACH. As a result, all relevant studies take into account the labor demand that future students will have, while only half take into account whether future university students take into account the interest of pursuing such careers. To establish a relevant curriculum, the criteria of current students, graduates, experts in the area, researchers in the area and the requirements of the company must be taken into consideration, in order to be able to meet the requirements of society
