Introduction: The implementation of the BIM methodology in Ecuador is still in its early stages. It has been highlighted that digitizing data for construction projects—using tools such as BIM—offers benefits for decision-making and more effective planning.
Objective: To analyze how the implementation of the BIM methodology can positively influence the technical documentation used in public procurement processes for construction projects.
Methods: This study employed a quantitative approach with a non-experimental, descriptive, and documentary design.
Results: A total of 117 budget items were analyzed; 73 of these (representing 62.39% of the budget) underwent value changes, with 45 showing increases and 28 showing decreases.
Conclusions: The BIM methodology improves the quality of technical documentation for any project; however, it must be applied comprehensively rather than merely as a design and modeling tool.
