Introduction: Regular physical training is crucial to improve cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD), a leading cause of global mortality. This study reviews the impact of aerobic, resistance, and high-intensity exercise on key indicators of cardiovascular health.
Objectives: To analyze the effects of regular sports training on cardiovascular health, evaluate different types of physical training, and examine barriers and facilitators to adopting an active lifestyle.
Methods: A systematic bibliographic review of relevant studies published in scientific databases was carried out. Research was selected that addressed different modalities of physical training and their effects on cardiovascular health.
Results: Aerobic exercise showed significant improvements in VO2 max and moderate reductions in blood pressure, with improvements in lipid profile. Resistance training demonstrated increases in muscle strength, with variable results on blood pressure. High-intensity interval training (HIIT) was associated with rapid improvements in VO2 max and reduced cardiovascular risk in older adults.
Conclusions: Different modalities of physical training offer specific benefits for cardiovascular health. Combining aerobic, resistance and HIIT exercises can improve aerobic capacity and control blood pressure. It is crucial to individualize training programs to optimize the lipid profile and promote an active lifestyle, thus mitigating cardiovascular diseases globally.
