Project-based learning (PBL) manages to change the behaviorist model based on unidirectional transmission of knowledge to a constructivist approach where learning is the basis for solving real problems, since it promotes critical thinking and creativity of students, two key competencies in professional training in automotive electromechanical professional figure. Therefore, the objective of this research was to determine the state of the art of PBL as a learning technique in professional automotive electromechanics through a review of journals in databases such as Scopus, Scielo, Redalyc and Google Scholar. Of the 180 articles reviewed, 24 were selected that show that the use of PBL has been frequently used in academic training in the technical university and engineering area, as well as in the professional figure of technical training at the intermediate level that includes the area of automotive electromechanics, whose implementation has allowed promoting critical thinking and creativity of students, improving both their academic performance and their possibility of insertion into the labor world, so it is concluded that this is a relevant strategy in the professional training of students in both classroom and online education.
