Introduction: In the mining industry, which requires substantial power to extract minerals from the earth, it is evident that significant noise levels are generated. Drilling, blasting, handling heavy machinery, crushing, and grinding are the operations that produce the most noise in this sector.
Objective: To identify the most common factors causing occupational diseases, focusing on the risk of noise.
Results: Noise is a serious problem in industrial safety and occupational health, as most mining jobs exceed the noise thresholds permitted by the WHO (75 to 80 dB). The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is essential, and it has been suggested to reduce the working hours for machinery operators to a maximum of 6 hours per shift.
Conclusions: Non-compliance with safety regulations at work and improper use of PPE are determining factors in the generation of these occupational diseases. Mining continues to be one of the leading causes of occupational diseases in the industry due to the magnitude of the work performed.
