Migration and its implications for the lives of elderly people in situations of abandonment

Older adults in Ecuador are considered a priority group for attention, even facing double vulnerability, according to Articles 35, 36, 37, and 38 of the Constitution of the Republic. In this sense, the objective of this manuscript is to critically analyze the phenomenon of migration to determine its implications for the lives of older adults in situations of abandonment. The legal issue will be studied using inductive, analytical, and descriptive methods. The researcher adopts a mixed approach due to the objectives and complexity of the investigation, which is of a pure, documentary, and dogmatic descriptive type. A probabilistic sample of 139 older adults was used, and data was collected through surveys. The results indicate that most of them face issues such as loneliness, lack of medical care, and limited institutional support. The research emphasizes the urgent need to implement public policies that ensure the social and economic inclusion of older adults, facilitating their access to services and protections. It concludes that migration affects not only those who leave but also those who stay, especially in terms of isolation and the deterioration of their quality of life
