Teenage Pregnancy: Consequences in the Family, School, and Psychosocial Domains

Introduction: Adolescent pregnancy is a significant challenge for global public health, negatively impacting the physical and emotional health of young people, their education, and their social and family environment. Despite advancements in access to contraceptive methods, the rate of pregnancies among adolescents aged 15 to 19 has increased. Adolescent pregnancy is a complex issue for families, society, and the health system.
Objective: To analyze the repercussions of adolescent pregnancy in family, school, and psychosocial contexts.
Methods: This study adopted a qualitative approach with a literature review, employing a narrative design and an inductive-deductive method to understand the repercussions of this phenomenon.
Results: The causes and consequences of adolescent pregnancy were analyzed, including early initiation of sexual activity, lack of information about sexuality and contraceptives, and inadequate handling of the topic by parents. The consequences include emotional challenges, low self-esteem, depression, and anxiety.
Conclusions: It is suggested to implement comprehensive sexuality education, facilitate access to sexual and reproductive health services, and promote public policies that foster sexual health, gender equality, and the reduction of gender-based violence.
