The purpose of the following chapter is to analyze and differentiate the actions and results expected through the promotion and prevention of health in the population for which a literature review was conducted using data managers such as: SPRINGER, ELSEVIER, GOOGLE ACADEMIC, SCIELO, SCOPUS, THE LANVET AND PUB MED, considering that health prevention seeks protection and reduction of risk factors to a disease in its prepathogenic, pathogenic or chronic phase in a specific population compared to promotion that seeks to improve the welfare and quality of life seeking long-term results in the population by modifying their cultural, social, environmental and economic determinants. Both prevention and health promotion are valuable tools and strategies in primary health care, each one brings significant benefits to the population. Medical personnel should promote knowledge, awareness, and equity to patients thus obtaining a preventive medicine that promotes, which undoubtedly reduces morbimortality and improves quality of life.
