Food security is considered as a universal right of people to access food. The levels of food insecurity in recent years have become a study problem within social development. The objective of this study is to identify the relationship between sociodemographic factors and levels of food security through multivariate techniques.
Cross-sectional study with an associative scope, data collected between December 2020 and February 2021. The database consists of 4668 valid observations. The study was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and has been approved by an ethics committee in humans. Data processing and multivariate analysis were used Python and R software. Chi square, V Crammer, Lambda, Gamma were used as statistics. D Somers and multiple correspondence analysis.
31% of people are male while 69% are female, 34% of households surveyed have severe food insecurity, 14% mild, and 46% food security. Regarding occupation, the highest percentage of insecurity is found in students with 19.4.%, higher education level with 23%. The ordinal variables that are best associated with food security are the number of people living at home, economic income, and income changes during the pandemic. The nominal variables, delay in payments and loss of work, statistically present an association with the levels of food insecurity. According to the D Somers and Lambda coefficients, respectively, the variables described make it possible to predict the levels of food security.
Statistically, not all sociodemographic characteristics predict levels of food security. Therefore, public policies must focus on the aspects of greatest risk to reduce food insecurity
