Introduction: Adhesive cementation in indirect ceramic restorations is a critical step that directly influences the aesthetic outcome and longevity of the restorative treatment.
Objective: This systematic review evaluated the available scientific evidence on the color stability of preheated composite resins when used as a luting agent in indirect ceramic restorations.
Methods: A systematic search was conducted in the PubMed and Scopus databases, initially identifying 582 articles. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 18 studies were selected for final analysis.
Results: Findings suggest that preheated resins exhibit color stability comparable to traditional resin cements, with ΔE values within the clinically acceptable range in most analyzed studies. However, methodological heterogeneity limits the extrapolation of results to clinical practice. Factors such as ceramic thickness, material opacity, and preheating protocol significantly influence color stability.
Conclusions: Restorations with thicknesses greater than 1.5 mm and the use of translucent cements showed the best results in terms of color stability. The main identified limitations include methodological heterogeneity among studies and the exclusive focus on in vitro research. Long-term controlled clinical trials are needed to validate these findings in real clinical conditions.
