Mental workload in teachers and students is the constant effort of thinking, planning, and responding to multiple responsibilities. When it accumulates, it can lead to fatigue and emotional exhaustion. This study aimed to evaluate the levels of mental workload in students and teachers at the National University of Chimborazo. To this end, the SWAT test was administered to a population of 106 people who were surveyed using a convenience sample. The levels of mental workload and its dimensions—low, medium, and high—were analyzed, along with their relationship to sociodemographic variables. The results showed a mental workload of: 4.7% low, 45.3% medium, and 50% high. The instrument demonstrated good internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.810) and good sample acceptance (KMO = 0.723), thus confirming its reliability. Regarding the correlations between sociodemographic variables, dimensions, and mental workload, the chi-square test found no correlation, indicating the presence of other factors influencing the phenomenon under investigation. It is concluded that there is a high level of mental workload in the people evaluated, therefore, coping strategies and preventive measures, such as positive psychology, should be implemented.
