Introduction: Medical supply management has emerged as a critical challenge in contemporary healthcare systems, particularly in the wake of the profound impacts revealed by the COVID-19 pandemic. In this context, the study conducted at Riobamba Provincial General Teaching Hospital offers an innovative perspective on pharmaceutical supply optimization strategies.
Methods:Through a rigorous longitudinal descriptive quantitative analysis, the research examined 270 observations conducted between 2022 and 2023, utilizing advanced statistical tools that allowed a multidimensional understanding of management processes. Objetive: The fundamental objective was to evaluate the impact of new guidelines on drug availability, unraveling the dynamics that shape healthcare system efficiency.
Results: The results revealed a significant transformation. Drug availability experienced a substantial increase, moving from 4.73 to 7.17 months, accompanied by a notable reduction in stock rupture cases, from 48 to 19. A particularly relevant finding was the moderate correlation (r=0.68) between purchased quantity and availability, challenging traditional inventory management paradigms.
Conclusions: The findings underscore the importance of dynamic and adaptive purchasing strategies over maintaining high stock levels. The transformative impact of the ministerial guidelines was evident in the 51.58% increase in drug availability and a significant reduction in stock-outs.
