Introduction: Knowledge management starts from the business reality; however, it can be applied in social, cultural and educational contexts. Since it allows, in organizations and educational institutions, the individual to contribute new ideas, to carry out his work more efficiently and, above all, to manage information by applying it to new communicative situations.
Development: In order to achieve an adequate knowledge management, it is necessary to recognize that it is not only originated by information management, but that several processes and people must be involved in its development. In an organization or educational institution, information management models can be elaborated, but this information must be processed coherently so that it becomes knowledge. The elaboration of actions will allow teachers to deepen the theoretical assumptions, plan, execute and control the development of knowledge management in students.
Conclusions: The importance and impact that the effective development of knowledge management has for education, with a view to the improvement of meaningful learning in students, is pondered. It is emphasized the need to deepen in aspects related to the expectations and application of knowledge management in order to highlight its impact on education.
