Abstract

The increasing demand for energy and the environmental challenges associated with the use of fossil fuels have driven the exploration of cleaner energy alternatives, such as hydrogen. This article reviews the possibilities of hydrogen storage using porous materials, focusing on adsorbents derived from lignocellulosic biomass, particularly avocado seeds. The functionalization of these materials with lithium enhances their storage capacities, making them an attractive and cost-effective option. The research focuses on synthesizing activated carbons through thermochemical processes and analyzing the impact of lithium incorporation on their adsorption properties. Despite technological challenges, such as the management of synthesis variables, it concludes that lithium-functionalized adsorbents represent a viable and sustainable alternative for the energy transition. This approach also contributes to the circular economy by utilizing agricultural waste, aiding in addressing environmental issues related to the disposal of such waste.
