FTTH network using ITU G984.x technology for the migration of an ADSL network in the city of Alausí

This research was aimed to design a Passive Optical Network with Gigabit capacity (GPON) to migrate an ADSL network to FTTH, the current ITU G 984.X regulations were used to provide voice, video, and data services in Alausí city. In addition, optical communications systems, and technologies FTTx Networks were also analyzed, which made it possible to determine the best architecture for the new network infrastructure. First, an analysis of the existing network in Alausí city was made for the development of the project, and later the GPON network design was drawn up, which is made up of the feeder network, distribution network, and dispersion network. Finally, the respective tests were carried out to verify the operation of the network through theoretical calculations and the use of the Optisystem Software. The obtained results in this project are based on the analysis of the closest user and the remote user considering parameters such as link budget, quality factor, and minimum BER, which were satisfactory because they meet the established parameters by the ITU G984.2 standard. it is concluded that the GPON access network in Alausí city is flexible, scalable, viable, and has an admissible bandwidth to provide voice, video, and data services.
