Introduction: According to the World Health Organization, odontomas are benign tumors that involve an alteration in epithelial and mesenchymal cells. They account for 59.5% of odontogenic tumors, making them the most common type. Odontomas are classified into complex and compound types, with the latter being more prevalent and characterized by the presence of multiple denticles resembling rudimentary teeth.
Objective: To conduct a literature review of the descriptive characteristics of odontomas, exemplified by a case report.
Case Presentation: A 13-year-old patient with several denticles located in the middle third of the root between teeth 42 and 43. The patient shows no history, or symptoms related to odontomas. Radiographic and intraoral analyses diagnose the presence of a compound odontoma, and the established treatment is surgical enucleation of the odontoma.
Conclusions: Odontomas require early detection and treatment to prevent complications such as delayed dental eruption and facial asymmetry. Studying odontomas is crucial for providing accurate information and enabling dental professionals to make proper diagnoses and distinguish them from other oral lesions.
