Introduction: Tourism is a social phenomenon that over time has become one of the main engines for the economic growth of a country.
Objective: Evaluate the tourism potential of an emerging destination based on three important points: tourism and the generation of local economy, the potential of the territory associated with entrepreneurship through natural and cultural resources within the Juan Pío Montufar community.
Methods: The methodology used was focused on carrying out a situational diagnosis of the community that allowed evaluating tourism supply and demand using primary and secondary information. Participatory workshops were also held to obtain an internal and external analysis that contributed to the inventory and ranking of natural and cultural tourist resources, and surveys were also applied to visitors entering the community.
Results: The information allowed us to generate strategic guidelines to promote sustainable development in this Amazonian Kichwa community.
Conclusions: The implementation of the proposed strategic guidelines must be through joint work between public, private and community actors related to the tourism management of the territory.
