Introduction: Hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (HPE) is characterized by a concentric thickening of the muscular layers of the pylorus causing a progressive decrease in the diameter of the pyloric duct. It occurs in infants and the most notable symptoms are non-bilious projectile vomiting, irritability and lack of weight gain for age, leading to dehydration and malnutrition.
Objective: Expand the EHP through the report of a clinical case.
Case presentation: Mother of a one-month-old male infant reports that at 6 days after birth he presents with food-type and non-bilious vomiting after each breastfeeding, a sensation of unquantified thermal rise, and semi-liquid, non-foul stools, which is why he goes to the center. health, in which a radiographic study without findings of interest is indicated, indicating outpatient treatment. The clinical picture is exacerbated by presenting projectile-type vomiting, fetid vomiting that progressively increases in quantity, appetite is maintained, irritability, constipation, paleness and jaundiced tinge, which is why he goes to a health facility as an emergency.
Conclusions: Timely detection of HPE in infants allows early referral for surgical management, thus avoiding dehydration or malnutrition.
