Introduction: Clot formation is a complex mechanism intended to prevent bleeding after injury. However, sometimes clot formation can trigger myocardial infarction, cerebral infarction, or clot formation in the veins or within the atria of the heart, and in these cases, the administration of anticoagulant drugs is essential.
Development: The development addresses everything related to the use of anticoagulants in cardiovascular diseases and their perspective on Internal Medicine. It also discusses their advantages, contraindications and classification. Concluding with the future lines of research with respect to the thematic approached in the article.
Conclusions: In cardiology, oral anticoagulant therapy has played a fundamental role in the prevention of systemic thromboembolism, especially in AF and valvulopathies, especially in the presence of mitral stenosis of native valves and mechanical valve prostheses.
