Introduction: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a most common inflammatory skin disease; which has a substantial impact on the quality of life of patients. Without clear diagnostic tests, the clinical diagnosis and natural history of the disease and with medical evaluation is the Gold Standard for its diagnosis. Treatment options for pediatric patients with AD are very limited.
Development: This is an article reviewing the documents of scientific societies dedicated to the care of atopic dermatitis in children, as well as systematic reviews and current scientific studies was carried out through the search engines SCOPUS, WOS and Pubmed and Google Scholar both in Spanish. like in English.
Practical applications: In recent years, new treatments have come onto the market for use in AD in children. Additionally, many emerging topical and systemic agents are described. that are being investigated.
Conclusions: Atopic dermatitis is a common dermatological disease in childhood worldwide. The use of diagnostic criteria allows us to determine the index of severity and the treatment regimen for this disease. For treatment, corticosteroids and tacrolimus are the mainstay. Currently, results are expected from different emerging treatments with promising efficacy and safety profiles.
