Introduction: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by thick, well-demarcated erythematous plaques, along with overlapping silvery scales. The severity of the disease varies widely, with some patients experiencing only a dermal plaque while others experience systemic disease. Patients with psoriasis also have an impact on their quality of life that affects their psychosocial environment.
Development: An article reviewing the documents of scientific societies dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of psoriasis in adults was carried out, as well as systematic reviews and current scientific studies in SCOPUS, WOS and Pubmed and Google Scholar in both Spanish and English.
Practical applications or future lines of research: An AI system is currently being developed for the evaluation of the severity of psoriasis using neural networks to improve the diagnosis of the severity of psoriasis.
Conclusions: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory dermatosis mediated by a response especially mediated by the adaptive immune system. There are risk factors associated with psoriasis like cardiovascular risk factors. Psoriasis comprises a wide range of clinical manifestations from simple scaly erythematous plaques to life-threatening systemic diseases. The fundamental pillar of psoriasis treatment is based on the degree of involvement of the clinical manifestations.
