EMOTIONAL DEPENDENCE AND MARITAL SATISFACTION IN ADULT WOMEN

Introduction: Emotional dependence is a maladaptive pattern, in which the person tries to meet emotional needs with other individuals. Marital satisfaction is the subjective and global valuation that a person has towards his or her partner and his or her relationship.
Objective: To determine the correlation between emotional dependence and marital satisfaction in adult women.
Method: The research is quantitative correlational, non-experimental and cross-sectional. The Emotional Dependence Questionnaire (EDC) and the Pick and Andrade Marital Satisfaction Scale were administered to 102 adult women.
Results and conclusions: No correlation was found between the total scores of emotional dependence and marital satisfaction; however, the scale of satisfaction with the emotional aspects of the spouse had a slight negative relationship with affective expression of the partner, modification of plans, attention seeking and emotional dependence. Thus, the higher the satisfaction with the emotional aspects of the spouse, the lower the emotional dependence, affective expression of the partner, modification of plans and attention seeking. The mean score of emotional dependence is 60.88 and that of marital satisfaction is 56.9. Finally, no significant differences were found in marital satisfaction in relation to marital status.
