An systematic descriptive review was carried out using databases such as PudMed, Scielo, Google Scholar, and the virtual library of the Catholic University of Cuenca, among others, compiling a total of 19 usable documents for the study, which include medical practice guidelines both nationally and from other countries, with the aim of making a comparison and compiling useful information for today's society.Primary arterial hypertension being the main cause, where the causative agent is not specifically known; the influence of genetic predisposition and a sedentary lifestyle, together with poor diet and advanced age are well known among its main triggers.For diagnosis and treatment, it is very important both the quantification of blood pressure and the appearance of our patient, the diagnosis should be confirmed with at least 2 blood pressure readings recorded in different visits to the doctor and from there, The treatment must be balanced with changes in the patient's lifestyle, both in terms of dietary habits and physical activity. In the pharmacological area, it must be clarified that it must be individualised and can be covered by the use of thiazide diuretics, ACE inhibitors, ARA-II, calcium antagonists, beta-blockers and their correct combinations.
