Gastritis crónica y su relación con la enfermedad periodontal

La cavidad oral con afección periodontal es considerada como un reservorio extragástrico de Helicobacter pylori, este bacilo gram negativo se encuentra en aproximadamente el 50% de la población a nivel mundial y además es mencionado como el agente etiológico principal de la gastritis crónica. La presente investigación fue realizada con el objetivo de analizar la relación entre la gastritis crónica con la enfermedad periodontal. Mediante la revisión de la literatura se determinó que si existe correlación entre las dos alteraciones las mismas que comparten un estado inflamatorio el cual puede intervenir en la patogenia, siendo necesario un tratamiento simultáneo para evitar reinfecciones o agudizaciones ya sea en el tracto gastrointestinal o en el tejido de soporte de los dientes.
